OPEN EXCHANGE: EVALUATION CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT IN AFRICA

DATE: 12 September 2023 (Tuesday before the opening of Evidence2023)

TIME: 13h00 - 17h00
VENUE: Protea Hotel Entebbe

In September 2019 delegates from 24 African countries gathered to discuss “Evaluation Capacity Development in Africa”. The event was hosted by the Centers for Learning on Evaluation and Results, CLEAR, together with the World Bank’s Independent Evaluation Group (IEG). Participants from English, French, and Portuguese language groups worked together to identify challenges and potential actions for strengthening Evaluation Capacity Development across countries in Africa. As was the case with most emerging initiatives globally, Covid-19 stopped the momentum of this fruitful and important conversation on how to strengthen a pan-African ECD-collaboration. Now, Evidence 2023 brings together Evidence, M&E and ECD-practitioners from across the African continent (and beyond) and we would like to take this opportunity to take forward the exchange started in 2019 with interested people on September 12th. The event will be free of charge and organized as an open exchange, structured by inputs from CLEAR AA, WFP and DEval. We welcome especially ECD-practitioners and all interested in strengthening evaluation capacities in Africa.

STORYTELLING WORKSHOP: AN AFRICAN LED APPROACH FOR KNOWLEDGE DISSEMINATION

DATE: 15 September 2023

TIME: 14h00 - 17h00
VENUE: Protea Hotel Entebbe, Conference room 1

Our course will target Evidence brokers, practitioners, knowledge translation consultants, guidelines developers, consumer representatives, development agencies and government agencies, and other guidelines enthusiasts who are interested in increasing the equitable access and uptake of research evidence in decision making. It will teach this target group how to engage consumers in a science-arts collaboration to communicate research recommendations and engage consumers using storytelling. This storytelling approach has used evidence recommendations from JBI audits and feedback criteria, GIN library, Cochrane Library, Campbell Library, MAGIC Evidence Ecosystem, EBM Africa Network, WHO, eCOVID RecMap and Duodecim. It was also a subject of a Webinar with WHO.

"Only together can evidence-informed decision-making become a reality."
